Aloo tikki is an Indian dish. It falls in the starter category. Made out of boiled potatoes, potatoes is the main ingredient which makes it soft and tasty from the inside and later on by adding other ingredients it is made crunchy on the outside. Along with potatoes, green peas and beans and curry spices are added in the stuffing which adds the nutritional value of the aloo tikkis. Not just in india but this dish is made all around the world though the name might be different. But namely, in Pakistan and Bangladesh and Northern India aloo tikki is loved. Now-a-days, aloo tikki is eaten with bread, i.e one tikki is put between two breads which is also called burger. It is stuffed with cheese and lettuce to make it tastier. Tikki also resembles to patty or cutlet which is made by considering different main ingredients. Aloo tikki is high in calories as it is made up of potato and potato is known for high calories. This is a good option to hop on as it is easy and tasty. Mostly loved by the young generation, this recipe if followed correctly will also make the above 40’s ones to ask for more. Aloo tikki can be served with various other chutneys and sauces if one doesn’t opt for bread. Aloo tikkis in the form of batata wadas 0can be found in India on almost every other food stall on the roadsides and hotels as well. If followed correctly, the steps given below will take about 26 – 30 minutes to prepare and 16-20  minutes for cooking. The preparation and cooking both steps are easy and still the recipe is tasty so make it correctly. This might differ from person to person, variating by speed.

Ingredients for Aloo Tikki

  • 6 medium potatoes (aloo), (boil them, peel them and then mash)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil, and some extra for deep frying
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup grated cottage cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh coriander
  • 6-7 cashew nuts, crushed
  • ½ tablespoon red chilli powder

How to Make Aloo Tikki Recipe

  1. Take a big plate enough to make a dough of the potato.

  2.  Knead the potatoes nicely and make a dough out of it.

  3. Divide the dough by making twelve equal portions out of it. 

  4. Take a non-stick pan, heat one spoon of oil in the pan, add the onions to it till it becomes translucent.

  5.  Let the onions cool. After it is cool, mix the onions with the ¼ cup grated cottage cheese, ¼ chopped fresh coriander, cashew nuts, red chilli powder and salt properly.

  6. Make twelve equal portions of this mixture.

  7. Now, it is time to stuff the potatoes with the cheese mixture. To do this, take one potato mixture and one cottage cheese mixture and stuff the cottage cheese mixture in the potato ones. 

  8. Using your palm, make tikkis by rolling them on your palm measuring some two-inch in diameter and half-inch thickness.

  9. Take a kadai for frying. Add some oil in the kadai which will suffice to fry the aloo tikkis. 

  10.  Deep fry the aloo tikkis, till the color turns golden brown. Drain the tikkis on the absorbent paper so that the oil gets drained. 

  11. The fresh aloo tikkis are now ready to be served with any desired thing
