David Guetta’s concert, which was scheduled for Thursday in Bengaluru, has been cancelled with the organizer’s citing ‘law and order’ situation in the city following the molestation incident which happened on New Year’s eve.
‘Due to the present law and order situation in Bengaluru following the events that transpired around New year’s eve, the authorities have recommended against holding the David Guetta concert scheduled today in the city’, tweeted CEO of Sunburn, Karan singh.
He added, ‘we at Sunburn tried our very best to make it happen but the authorities are understandably not prepared to take any chances. Hence, today’s concert, unfortunately stands cancelled.’
The organizers said that they hope to reschedule the concert if they get permission from the authorities and the artist but there is no clarity at the moment.
The concert of the French DJ and Grammy award winner was organized for a charitable cause. Funds raised from the concert were to be donated to the NGO Magic Bus that works for underprivileged kids.
Police have different versioned story
While organizers cite security reasons behind scrapping of the concert, the police has claimed that the concert was not cancelled rather they suggested the organizers to reschedule the event. They said that because of the Agriculture Product Market Committee election in the state they didn’t have enough manpower to provide security to an event of such a large scale.
‘The permission was sought only two days ago. We didn’t have enough manpower to handle a large crowd owing to the elections’, said Seemanth Kumar Singh, IG, Bengaluru. He added that since the APMS elections were being held in the state, there was no way that an event of the magnitude of David Guetta’s could be held without proper police protection.
Demanding clarification, Singh said, ‘None of our police officers told them that it was a law and order issue. They need to tell us who told them.’
Other cities to follow the schedule
Apart from Bengaluru, David Guetta is going to perform in three other Indian cities – Mumbai, Hyderabad and New Delhi. In all these cities, there are no changes in the schedule as for now. Concerts are scheduled to be held in Mumbai on 13th January, Hyderabad on 14th January, and New Delhi on 15th January.
Guetta is on four-city tour which was scheduled to begin from Bengaluru and then move on to other cities. The global star has been to India before in 2012.
