Maatr is a thriller film written by Michael Pellico, directed by Ashtar Sayed and Raveena Tandon playing the lead. The film has released today and has come up with a mixed review. Since the film has been announced it has been the highlight. The Delhi story is not very new but the title of the film and the long time return of Raveena Tandon as a lead brought it under the limelight. Generally, we see a male actor fighting for the Justice to any such incident happening but here Raveena does the role of a mother with an outstanding performance and fights for the Justice alone.
Maatr is a story of injustice, a fictional rape revenge drama. It is an about a mother Vidya Chauhan (Raveena Tandon) and her teenage daughter who are cruelly gang-raped by a group of men high on money and political power. The teenage girl could not survive the happening and dies. However, Vidya being severely injured was saved to live. After the incident, she is abandoned by her husband. How she goes about it all alone for the justice forms the rest of the film.
It’s a performance-driven film. There’ve been countless films made on the same concept, crime thriller, rape-revenge fantasy, and Justice. The storyline of the film is not new for sure, but Raveena Tandon’s brilliant acting as the unguarded, powerless and a broken mother who turns into a cold-hearted killer is the most hard-hitting performance to date.
Even the songs of the film have been doing well. The songs, ‘Zindagi Ae Zindagi’ sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and ‘Aisi Hoti Hai Maa’ sung by Kavita Seth are appropriately used to project the emotional quotient of the narrative.
Though the film has not turned with a good opening, but it is surely a watch for the thrill and action.
