Soon after Amma’s death AIDMK was divided into two, one headed by Sasikala and another by O Panneerselvam. After a long divide, both have decided to unite. The news of mearger came in, when along with Sasikala’s camps, 25 AIADMK ministers probe into a meeting late at night. In the members of 25, former chief minister O Panneerselvam was also present. After the meeting, one of the ministers, D Jayakumar opens up by saying “we discussed on the O Panneerselvam statement of merging together. We welcome that, will hold talks.”
The meeting took place at P Thangamani’s residence. Major other leaders like Edappadi Palaniswami, C Vijaya Bhaskar were also present.
With the faction between the two, the party symbol, “two leaves” was presently taken back by the Election Commission.
Jayakumar on the meeting said “We discussed about keeping the party united. O. Panneerselvam gave an opinion, which we welcome. We discussed about how we can take the party forward in a united way.” He added, “This is like a fight between brothers. We will unite and retrieve the two leaves symbol together.” He also informed that all the necessary documents along with affidavit would soon be submitted to Election Commission.
He gave no information regarding Sasikala leaving the party, once the party re-unites. But tells that Dinakaran has taken speacial permissions from the authorities to meet Sasikala in jail.
Also, O Paneerselvam has laid few conditions before re-uniting. He has demanded the chief minister post for himself. His second demand is ousting of Sasikala of Kin. His third demand is to probe into the matter of Amma’s death.
Earlier, TTV Dinakaran was in a muddle of the case filled for bribing the Election Commission to get the symbol of the poarty. Delhi police booked the charges as the crime branch recovered INR 1.3 crore and 2-3 assets from a middle man called Sukesh Chandrashekhar.
