Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017 Phase 5

51 Assembly constituencies across 11 districts are going to poll in the 5th phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections. A total of 608 candidates are contesting in phase 5 with maximum of 24 candidates in Amethi and minimum of 6 candidates in Kapilvastu and Etwa from the Siddhart Nagar district. This phase will witness the approximate participation of 1.84 crore voters out of which 96 lakh are women.

Major face-off:

Prominent contestants in the phase include 9 ministers of Samajwadi Party. Gayatri Prasad Prajapati will have a faceoff with Amita Singh and Amita Singh with Garima Singh in Amethi.

Besides this, the fate of other ministers like Vinod Kumar Singh, Tej Narain Pandey, Ram Achal Rajbhar will be decided in this phase elections.

BSP Chief Minister, Mayawati accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah of “dreaming of destroying UP”, saying that the public was disenchanted with the “wrong policies” of the Centre and Samajwadi Party government.

Ambedkar Nagar elections on 9th March:

Due to death of Samajwadi Party’s candidates Chandrashekhar Kanaujia in Alapur, Ambedkar Nagar ; Election Commission has announced the fresh date of voting in this constituency. The fresh date is scheduled to be 9th march 2017.

2012 UP Elections:

In 2012, Samajwadi Party had won 37 seats out of 52 (total number of seats), while BJP and Congress won 5 seats each. BSP won 3 and Peace Party won only 2 seats.
